Role Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (Chemical Pathology) plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by collecting, processing, and analyzing various biological specimens to diagnose and monitor infectious diseases.  

The Chemical Pathology plays a critical role in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases, contributing to patient care and public health efforts. 

 Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Performs routine and specialized chemical pathology tests within acceptable TAT. 
  • Skills to operate calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot analyzers and other lab equipment.     
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in all laboratory procedures sufficient to perform at a satisfactory level without supervision. 
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment or instruments. 
  • Performs troubleshooting as needed. Use problem solving skills when reviewing test result accuracy and reliability to identify causes for unexpected deviations 
  • Coordinate work flow to ensure timely reporting of results. 
  • Review test procedures, recommends changes and assists with communication of the changes to testing staff. 
  • Perform proficiency testing (PT) in chemical pathology. 
  • Assists with maintenance of procedure manual. 
  • Assists with data collection for equipment validations and data analysis.
  • Assists with activities to support the Laboratory Information System and software changes.
  • Assists with inventory control procedures to monitor reagent stock levels.
  • Contribute to research and evaluation of new techniques as well as laboratory audits.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical Pathology, Medical Laboratory Science. 
  • 2+ years of experience within Chemical Pathology environment. 
  • Must be in good standing with Allied Health Professions Council.
  • Be organized and be able to prioritize work schedule. 
  • Have good written and verbal communication skill. 
  • Be meticulous and pay attention to detail. 
  • Have strong analytical skills. 
  • Have troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrate understanding of laboratory information management systems. 
  • Ability to work as a team member.
