Radiographer
Role Summary:
The job holder will form part of a team of staff in the Radiology Department responsible for the provision of a safe, efficient, high quality service working in accordance with Radiology Department protocols. The post holder will be expected to maintain and develop high standards of patient care amongst peers, colleagues and users of imaging services.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- To maintain a safe, efficient and high standard of Radiography.
- To take professional responsibility for ensuring compliance at all times with the legislation and the local radiation rules to ensure that during the course of work standards of radiation protection are maintained for self, patients, other staff and members of the public.
- To ensure compliance with protocols and procedures in relation to ionising and non-ionising radiation.
- To ensure that all radiographic examinations undertaken are carried out with due regard to the IR(ME)R and under these regulations, to act as Justifier and Operator for radiographic examinations.
- To act as a patient advocate in MR safety and radiation protection issues in accordance with local protocols, legislation and relevant safety guidelines.
- To administer contrast media in accordance with local protocols and appropriately manage any adverse reactions/incidents.
- To maintain standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the working environment and of equipment. This will include dealing with bodily fluids and dirty linen according to Health and Safety polices and Infection Control policies and procedures.
- To act in accordance with the Radiographers’ Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
- To maintain accuracy of input to computer records relating to Imaging examination.
- To use effective communication skills in daily working to encourage patient understanding and compliance and to provide reassurance to reduce anxiety.
- To ensure that all communications: verbal, written and electronic promote an open clear exchange of information. To demonstrate a positive professional attitude in dealing with enquiries from staff, patients and relatives.
Education and Experience:
- BSc in Diagnostic Radiography /Ultrasonography or equivalent.
- At least 2 years post graduate experience in radiography (CT Scan/MRI San/Ultrasound Scan).
- Licensed and regulated by the Allied Health Professions Council of Ghana.
- Good standing with the Ghana Society of Radiographers.
- To be competent in patient transfer methods to comply with the Hospital’s manual handling policies and be able, physically, to perform patient transfers as a routine part of duties.
- Proficiency and competency in all radiological procedures.
- Ability to be creative in handling emergencies.
- Ability to work as a team member.
