Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari

Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari is currently the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Ghana International Bank and acts as the Chair of the Board Credit Committee.

Dr Opoku-Afari obtained his degree in Economics with Statistics from the University of Ghana and his Doctorate from the University of Nottingham. He has extensive public finance and economic sector experience having held various positions within the Ghana Revenue Authority Board, Bank of Ghana Monetary Policy Committee, Ghana Interbank Payments and Settlement System Board, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Board, Central Securities Depository Board, Ghana Fixed Income Market Steering Committee, IMF in Washington DC, the Bank of Ghana, UNU-WIDER) based in Helsinki, Finland, School of Economics and the University of Nottingham.

Dr Opoku-Afari has published a number of articles which include: Tracking Short Term Dynamics of Economic Activity in LICs in the Absence of High Frequency Data, Fiscal Effects of Aid in Developing Countries: A Comparative Dynamic Analysis, Review of Macroeconomic Shocks and Policy Responses in Ghana and The Future of Domestic Capital Markets in Developing Countries.
