Health Benefits of Honey You Probably Didn’t Know About.

HONEY, That sweet, thick liquid every grandma loves to give their grandchildren with assurances that it boosts their IQ levels. Aside from what grandma told you, did you know there are many other benefits, many of which you probably didn’t know? Let’s go down that path today.

When bees accumulate and store a mix of various nectar, it is processed into what we call Honey. For many years, it’s been the go-to meal as well as medicine for many cultures. Here are some other benefits of honey.

  • Wounds. Honey is known to help heal wounds, burns, scalds and open sores. Surprisingly, many antibiotics cannot come close to this natural remedy.
  • Infections. There is a type of honey called Manuka that helps kill bacteria. This is due to the hydrogen peroxide and defensin-1 protein it contains. It is actually one of the strongest known types of honey. It is also typically used in preventing infections in ulcerations, pressure sores, diabetic foot ulcers and many other ulcers.
  • Cold-Cough-Sore throat. Especially in children, honey mixed with a small amount of milk is enough to treat acute cough, sore throat and cold in children. Adults are not left behind though.
  • Cosmetics. Need glowing skin? – Honey. Need a soft, soothing, lubricating feel? – Honey. The healing effects of honey surpass its antiseptic and antioxidant potentials. This is why it is used in many cosmetic products including lip balms, facial scrubs, creams, moisturizers, lotions and shampoos. It can even cure pimples and moisturize dry lips.
  • Hangover Remedy. Maybe you went wild last night with many drinks with your friends. It can get crazy early in the morning. Simply mix 2 teaspoons of honey and half cup of plain yoghurt and half cup orange juice. You’ll be grateful.

Although honey comes off as the magic potion to most health choices, it is important to note that, chemically mixing it with certain other intakes may cause issues. Typically, if you are diabetic, speak to your doctor before you self medicate using honey. If you want to lose weight, take honey in very small doses. Some people are allergic to bees and pollen. As honey is an allergen, be extra cautious.

In conclusion, Honey is nature’s gift. It is good. Talk of a wide variety of minerals, proteins, vitamins and antioxidants. All these properties make it a healthier choice than white table sugar.

An allergen is a type of antigen that produces an abnormally vigorous immune response in which the immune system fights off a perceived threat that would otherwise be harmless to the body.
