MAKOLA OUTREACH REPORT: BRINGING QUALITY HEALTHCARE TO THE HEART OF ACCRA

The Bank Hospital (TBH) proudly reports the success of its recent outreach held at Makola Market in Accra, which took place over two impactful days, 25th and 26th July 2024. This outreach marks an important milestone in our commitment to delivering quality healthcare to all, especially those in the informal sector who may not always have easy access to regular medical services. Our goal was simple yet powerful: to extend TBH’s healthcare services to the bustling community of traders and to demonstrate that our doors are open to everyone.

Makola Market, renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and central location, provided an ideal setting to connect with the local community. This outreach sought to increase awareness of TBH among traders, many of whom may have previously believed that our services were exclusively for elite clientele. By bringing healthcare to Makola’s doorsteps, we aimed to break down these misconceptions, showcasing our dedication to inclusivity, accessibility, and preventative healthcare.

This accomplishment reflects the hard work, expertise, and collaboration of our entire team, and it serves as a foundation for ongoing advancements in diagnostic accuracy and efficiency. At The Bank Hospital Laboratory, we remain steadfast in our mission to improve health outcomes through world-class laboratory services.

Outreach Objectives:

Our Makola Outreach was designed with three primary objectives:

The Two-Day Approach:

The outreach was divided into two distinct phases, each tailored to achieve our objectives.
Phase 1: Awareness Creation – Day 1
On the first day, our team embarked on an awareness campaign across key areas surrounding Makola Market, including Rawlings Park, UTC, CMB, and Opera Square. Armed with a range of engaging materials, TBH staff distributed 500 contact cards, 500 vouchers for healthcare services, and thousands of informational brochures about TBH. The goal was to reach 500 people and spark interest in the free health screening planned for the following day. Flyers and branded materials created visibility for TBH, drawing attention to our broad range of services and establishing a strong presence within the community.
Phase 2: Free Medical Screening – Day 2
The second day was dedicated to providing free medical screenings at the Makola Shopping Mall. This setup allowed market traders and the general public to experience TBH’s services firsthand in a relaxed, familiar environment. Through these screenings, participants received critical health checks, empowering them to take proactive steps in managing their health. The screening served not only as a medical check-up but also as an opportunity to familiarize attendees with TBH’s commitment to high-quality, accessible healthcare.
Following the event, we received positive feedback from attendees who appreciated TBH’s proactive efforts in reaching out to the informal sector. Many shared that they felt reassured knowing that TBH values the health of every community member, regardless of their background.
Looking Forward:
The Makola Outreach was more than a healthcare event; it was an inspiring demonstration of The Bank Hospital’s commitment to community engagement and inclusivity. By connecting directly with market traders, we deepened our understanding of their unique healthcare needs and demonstrated TBH’s commitment to ensuring everyone has access to quality medical care.
This successful outreach has reinforced our belief in the power of community-centred healthcare. Moving forward, TBH is committed to expanding its reach, providing ongoing education, and building trust with all sectors of society. We look forward to future initiatives that continue to bridge the gap between healthcare access and those who need it most.
Together, we can build a healthier future for everyone, and The Bank Hospital is honored to lead the way.
