The Bank Hospital Sets New Benchmark with Three Successful Kidney Transplants in 2026
The Bank Hospital performed three kidney transplants in January 2026, marking another milestone in advanced healthcare and reaffirming its status as a stalwart in kidney care in Ghana. Building on its historic achievement of being the first private hospital in Ghana to conduct kidney transplants for four patients between December 2023 and early January 2024, the hospital continues to excel and innovate in kidney care. The successful kidney transplants were made possible through strategic collaboration between The Bank Hospital’s highly qualified interdisciplinary clinical team and a specialised external transplant team from the University of Michigan.
The procedures were successful, with both donors and recipients recovering well within a short postoperative period and continuing to demonstrate excellent clinical outcomes.
This most recent accomplishment demonstrates the hospital’s steadfast dedication to improving specialised kidney care, bolstering local organ transplant capacity, and lowering the need for patients to seek care outside Ghana. It also reflects years of careful planning, investment in specialised care, and adherence to international best practices in transplant medicine.
In the words of one of the recipients “I didn’t know this was possible in Ghana”. Relatives who visited were equally surprised at how quickly their loved ones recovered post-surgery.
The Bank Hospital would like to express its sincere gratitude to The Bank Hospital Board and Directors, as well as the hospital’s leadership, for their unwavering support and strategic direction in maintaining this life-saving transplant program.
Furthermore, the hospital would like to express its profound appreciation to all members of the local and international medical teams whose expertise, collaboration, and dedication made this transplant program a success.
The Bank Hospital maintains its dedication to delivering world-class healthcare and offering renewed hope to patients living with end-stage kidney disease in Ghana. The Hospital plans to expand its transplant program, training local teams and increasing accessibility.
