The Bank Hospital’s Laboratory Becomes Ghana’s First Private Lab to Attain ISO Accreditation 

The Bank Hospital’s laboratory has officially become the first private lab in Ghana to achieve ISO accreditation (ISO 15189:2022), marking a historic achievement in the country’s healthcare landscape. This prestigious certification, attained on the hospital’s first attempt and within just three years of its establishment, underscores The Bank Hospital’s unwavering commitment to delivering superior healthcare services to Ghanaians. 

ISO 15189:2022 is an internationally recognized standard for medical laboratories, focusing on quality, accuracy, and reliability in testing. The 2022 revision emphasizes critical areas such as risk management, staff qualifications, and alignment with ISO 9001 principles. This accreditation demonstrates The Bank Hospital’s dedication to patient safety, continuous improvement, and fostering trust among patients, clinicians, and stakeholders. 

The achievement was celebrated during a special ceremony held at the hospital’s premises, bringing together key stakeholders, dignitaries, and staff. During her keynote address, Dr. Charlotte Osafo, the Medical Director of The Bank Hospital, praised the institution for its forward-thinking approach and dedication to excellence. 

“The Bank Hospital has set a bold precedent for the healthcare sector in Ghana. Achieving ISO accreditation within such a short time frame is a significant milestone. It demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to quality and operational excellence, assuring our patients and clinicians that our diagnoses are both accurate and reliable. This achievement serves as an inspiration for other institutions striving to improve healthcare delivery in the country,” she remarked. 

Indren Poovan, CEO of The Bank Hospital, reflected on the hospital’s journey of excellence, highlighting its earlier achievement of COHSASA accreditation and now the prestigious ISO accreditation. “These achievements are not merely certifications; they reflect our commitment to delivering healthcare services that align with international standards. Becoming the first private laboratory in Ghana to attain ISO accreditation is a proud moment for our team and a demonstration of the trust our patients place in us. Highlighting the technical aspects of the accreditation process, the hospital’s Lab Manager, Ernest Mireku, emphasized the team’s hard work and precision in meeting the rigorous requirements of ISO certification. “Achieving ISO accreditation on our first attempt is a proud moment for us. It reflects the diligence, expertise, and teamwork that went into aligning our processes with international standards. This accreditation affirms that our laboratory and healthcare services meet the highest global benchmarks, ensuring better outcomes for our patients,” he said. 

The Bank Hospital proudly stands as Ghana’s first and only private hospital to achieve dual accreditation with ISO 15189:2022 for medical laboratory quality and competence, and COHSASA for healthcare facility standards.
